How to set up Beehiiv

Read these before you start

• The free tier is genuinely generous at 2,500 subscribers, which is unusual — most competitors gate meaningful features behind a paid tier at far lower subscriber counts. Verify this hasn't changed before quoting, but as of 2026 it's a real differentiator worth leading with
• Beehiiv's monetization tools (ad network, paid subscriptions) take a platform cut of revenue generated through them — this isn't a flat subscription cost, it's a revenue share, which changes the total cost picture for a newsletter that's actually monetizing
• It's built for one specific shape of business (public newsletter growth + monetization) — trying to force it into a general marketing automation or e-commerce role will frustrate the user; recommend the right tool for the right job instead
• Custom domain requires the Scale tier ($39/mo) — a brand-new newsletter testing the waters on the free tier will be sending from a beehiiv.com subdomain, which reads as less professional

The 7-step setup

   Create your Beehiiv account

   Sign up at the link below. Free tier available - no card required. Use your business email so you can invite teammates later.

   Complete the initial onboarding

   Skip the marketing questionnaires when you can. Fill only the fields that actually configure the product - name, timezone, your first workspace or project. If Beehiiv pushes you into a setup wizard, take it - it usually accelerates the first productive session.

   Connect your existing tools

   Wire Beehiiv into the rest of your stack. The integrations that most people set up first: Zapier, WordPress, Stripe (for paid subscriptions), API access for custom integrations.. Do these before importing data - clean integration first, data second.

   Import your existing data (only what you'll actually use)

   Do NOT bulk-import everything. Import the last 30 days of the ONE workflow you're moving over first. Prove it works. Then import more. Big-bang migrations are how Beehiiv deployments die in month 3.

   Set up your first real workflow

   Pick the single most-frequent task you'll do in Beehiiv - the daily-driver workflow. Configure it end-to-end. Use it live for a week. Do not touch any other feature yet. Adoption failure comes from teams trying to use everything on day one instead of the one thing that actually pays.

   Add your team (if applicable) and set access

   Once your solo workflow works, invite one teammate at a time. Watch them use it. The friction points you missed are the ones they hit. Fix those before scaling to more users. Never invite 20 people at once - you'll get 20 confused people and 0 useful feedback.
