Finale Inventory
Multichannel inventory management for e-commerce sellers: Amazon, Shopify, eBay, wholesale
What it does
Finale Inventory (now branded Descartes Finale under Descartes Systems Group) is multichannel inventory management for e-commerce sellers moving real product volume across Amazon, Shopify, eBay, Walmart, and wholesale. Real-time stock sync across every sales channel, kit and bundle assembly, purchase order management, barcode scanning for warehouse receiving/picking/shipping, lot and serial tracking, and multi-location warehouse support. Positioned as the mid-market alternative to Cin7 (more expensive, more complex) and Katana (manufacturing-first).

Key features
Integrates with
Shopify, Amazon, eBay, QuickBooks, ShipStation
Who this fits
- E-commerce brands doing $500K to $50M annual revenue with real inventory (not print-on-demand, not pure dropship)
- Multichannel sellers on Amazon FBA + Shopify + eBay who need one truth for stock levels
- Wholesale-plus-DTC brands needing separate B2B and retail workflows
- Warehouses with barcode scanning workflows and pick/pack ops
- 3PLs and fulfillment centers managing inventory for multiple client brands
Who it does NOT fit
- Solo sellers with 20 SKUs and one Shopify store (use Shopify's native or an app like Stocky)
- Pure dropshippers (no inventory to manage)
- B2B SaaS, agencies, trades, real estate (this is a physical-goods tool)
- Manufacturing-heavy operations (Katana or NetSuite handle bill-of-materials better)
- Companies with existing ERP investment (Finale is inventory, not full ERP)
Pricing
Real gotchas
- Non-obvious gotcha: Finale's Amazon FBA integration syncs inventory levels correctly, but reconciling FBA lost/damaged/adjusted units against your on-hand count requires manual reconciliation workflows that Finale does not fully automate. Sellers with heavy FBA volume routinely find phantom shrinkage that turns out to be un-reconciled FBA adjustments. Assign someone to reconcile FBA weekly or this compounds silently.
- Pricing is now quote-only, so listed public numbers online are usually outdated
- The Descartes acquisition (announced 2024, completed 2025) is still reshaping product direction; watch for pricing and support changes
- Reporting is functional but not best-in-class; export to Excel or connect a BI tool for real analytics
- Barcode hardware (scanners, printers) is a real capex on top; Finale supports specific SKUs, do not buy blind

Otto’s take on this tool
Recommend Finale Inventory when: business_size is 5 to 100, industry is ecommerce (multichannel physical goods), current tools include Amazon Seller Central + Shopify or similar multichannel stack, and pain_points include stockouts, oversells across channels, or manual inventory reconciliation. Do NOT recommend for pure dropship, sub-500-SKU stores, or non-ecommerce verticals. If comparing to Cin7, Finale wins on price and setup speed; Cin7 wins on manufacturing depth and enterprise reporting.
