Productivity - Setup Guide

How to set up Frase

Otto's honest, no-fluff walkthrough. Every step here is what we'd actually do if we were sitting at your keyboard. Real gotchas first, real steps second, and a link to the personalized version at the bottom.

What you're signing up for

Easy, roughly 10 minutes for basic setup.

Read these before you start

  • AI-generated draft content is consistently described as generic and requiring heavy editing, quality is inconsistent, ranging from "surprisingly good" on competitive, well-covered keywords to "ChatGPT-early-days generic" on niche topics, set expectations accordingly and treat AI drafts as a starting point only (Source: user reviews via WebSearch summary, 2026)
  • The tool's real strength is the SERP research and brief generation, not the AI writing, lean on Frase for research and outline structure, and plan for a human writer to do the actual drafting for anything client-facing
  • Confirm the client is on current 2026 plan terms given the January 2026 platform rebuild, older reviews referencing AI-word caps and undisclosed restrictions may not reflect the current product

The 7-step setup

  1. 1

    Create your Frase account

Sign up at the link below. Card required for the paid tier - most plans include a trial period; check the pricing section on this page first so you know what you're committing to.

    Open Frase signup
  2. 2

    Complete the initial onboarding

Skip the marketing questionnaires when you can. Fill only the fields that actually configure the product - name, timezone, your first workspace or project. If Frase pushes you into a setup wizard, take it - it usually accelerates the first productive session.

  3. 3

    Connect your existing tools

Wire Frase into the rest of your stack. The integrations that most people set up first: Google Search Console, WordPress.. Do these before importing data - clean integration first, data second.

  4. 4

Import your existing data (only what you'll actually use)

Do NOT bulk-import everything. Import the last 30 days of the ONE workflow you're moving over first. Prove it works. Then import more. Big-bang migrations are how Frase deployments die in month 3.

  5. 5

Set up your first real workflow

Pick the single most-frequent task you'll do in Frase - the daily-driver workflow. Configure it end-to-end. Use it live for a week. Do not touch any other feature yet. Adoption failure comes from teams trying to use everything on day one instead of the one thing that actually pays.

  6. 6

Add your team (if applicable) and set access

Once your solo workflow works, invite one teammate at a time. Watch them use it. The friction points you missed are the ones they hit. Fix those before scaling to more users. Never invite 20 people at once - you'll get 20 confused people and 0 useful feedback.

  7. 7

    Compound with the right pairings

Recommend Frase specifically for its SERP research and content-brief generation, this is the genuinely strong part of the product. Set clear expectations that the AI drafting feature produces generic first-draft material needing real editing, especially on niche or expertise-heavy topics, don't oversell it as a replacement for a subject-matter-expert writer. Good complementary pairing: Frase for research/briefs, a human writer or Copy.ai for drafting, then a real editor for the final pass.

Pricing you'll hit

Per tools.json: Solo ~$15/mo (4 articles/month, SERP analysis), Basic ~$45/mo (30 articles/month), Team ~$115/mo (unlimited, 3 users). Note the platform was rebuilt in January 2026 with unlimited AI words across all plans per company claims, confirm current terms at frase.io/pricing.
