FullStory
Session replay and digital experience analytics
What it does
FullStory is a digital experience intelligence platform, best known for session replay. It records every visitor's session on a web or mobile app, so teams can watch actual user sessions, see rage clicks and dead clicks, filter for frustration signals, and diagnose bugs from real user behavior. Also includes autocapture-style event tracking and funnels, but the replay layer is the reason teams buy it.

Key features
Integrates with
Salesforce, HubSpot, Segment, Zendesk
Who this fits
- E-commerce sites diagnosing checkout drop-off
- SaaS product teams needing to see what users actually did before filing a bug
- CX and support teams wanting to co-watch sessions when triaging tickets
- Enterprise digital-experience teams standardizing behavioral data across many properties
- Anyone whose designers and PMs want qualitative behavior signals, not just numbers
Who it does NOT fit
- Solo founders on a budget (FullStory is enterprise-priced; Clarity is free and covers most needs)
- Simple content sites (session replay is overkill)
- Small teams whose main question is aggregate traffic (use GA4, Plausible, or Fathom)
- Businesses with heavy PII exposure and no time to configure redaction properly
Pricing
Real gotchas
- Session recording captures form inputs by default. PII (emails, passwords, credit cards) leaks into replay unless redaction is configured explicitly. FullStory has smart redaction rules but the default is not zero-trust [source: help.fullstory.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020623354].
- Session replay eats storage, and FullStory bills partly on session volume. High-traffic sites see cost climb fast.
- Session replay on mobile apps requires the FullStory SDK, which adds app size and battery cost.
- Replay only works if the DOM is capturable. Heavy Canvas, WebGL, or iframe content shows as blank in the replay.
- Customer data platforms and consent tools (OneTrust, Cookiebot) must be configured to allow FullStory or replay drops silently.
Integrations that matter
Otto’s take on this tool
Recommend FullStory for mid-market to enterprise e-commerce and SaaS teams where session replay is a core workflow (support triage, checkout diagnosis, PM discovery). Recommend Microsoft Clarity for small businesses and startups that want the same replay concept for free. Recommend Hotjar for teams wanting heatmaps and surveys alongside replay at mid-market pricing.
