How to set up ManyChat

Read these before you start

• **Contact list balloon**: Contact-based pricing means growth costs more. A brand that started at $29/mo can reach $200-350/mo within a year of steady list growth. Inactive contacts still count until manually deleted.
• **Instagram policy shifts**: Meta occasionally tightens Instagram DM automation rules. Manychat's compliance updates lag by days to weeks. Accounts using aggressive keyword automation sometimes get warned or restricted.
• **Overuse feels spammy**: Sending 5 promotional DMs a week to the same person kills engagement. Manychat gives you the tools to spam yourself into irrelevance.
• **Free tier trap post-March 2026**: The 25-contact free cap makes the free tier useless for anything past a 3-day test. Business owners who signed up in 2024 got a much better free tier and remember it that way.

The 7-step setup

   Sign up at the link below. Free tier available - no card required. Use your business email so you can invite teammates later.

   Complete the initial onboarding

   Skip the marketing questionnaires when you can. Fill only the fields that actually configure the product - name, timezone, your first workspace or project. If ManyChat pushes you into a setup wizard, take it - it usually accelerates the first productive session.

   Connect your existing tools

   Wire ManyChat into the rest of your stack. The integrations that most people set up first: - **Instagram + Meta Business** - the core use case, has to work - **WhatsApp Business API** - Pro tier and up - **Shopify** - abandoned cart flows via WhatsApp or Messenger, order confirmations, product recs. Ecommerce gold - **Klaviyo, Mailchimp** - contact sync from DM captures into email lists -.... Do these before importing data - clean integration first, data second.

   Import your existing data (only what you'll actually use)

   Do NOT bulk-import everything. Import the last 30 days of the ONE workflow you're moving over first. Prove it works. Then import more. Big-bang migrations are how ManyChat deployments die in month 3.

   Set up your first real workflow

   Pick the single most-frequent task you'll do in ManyChat - the daily-driver workflow. Configure it end-to-end. Use it live for a week. Do not touch any other feature yet. Adoption failure comes from teams trying to use everything on day one instead of the one thing that actually pays.

   Add your team (if applicable) and set access

   Once your solo workflow works, invite one teammate at a time. Watch them use it. The friction points you missed are the ones they hit. Fix those before scaling to more users. Never invite 20 people at once - you'll get 20 confused people and 0 useful feedback.

   Compound with the right pairings
