Rippling

All-in-one HR, IT, and Finance platform for businesses

What it does

Rippling is payroll, HR, benefits, and IT device/app management bundled into one system, built around the idea that an employee's identity should live in one place and everything else (their laptop's software, their Slack account, their payroll record, their health insurance) should flow from that single record. When you hire someone, Rippling can auto-provision their email, Slack, laptop apps, and payroll setup in one workflow instead of five separate ones.

Integrates with

Slack, Google Workspace, Okta, NetSuite

Who this fits

  • Growing companies (10-500 employees) that are tired of stitching together separate payroll, HR, and IT tools
  • Remote-first or hybrid teams needing device management (laptops shipped, apps provisioned, access revoked on offboarding) alongside payroll
  • Tech companies and B2B SaaS teams, this is where Rippling was built and where it's strongest
  • Multi-state or multi-entity employers who need one system handling compliance across jurisdictions

Who it does NOT fit

  • Solo founders or teams under 5, payroll-only tools like Gusto or OnPay are simpler and cheaper
  • Businesses with a single, simple payroll need and no IT/device management use case, you're paying for modules you won't touch
  • Teams wanting month-to-month flexibility, Rippling sells annual contracts and that matters if your headcount is volatile

Pricing

Per tools.json, starts around $8/employee/month for the base module, but Rippling's real pricing is modular and quote-based, payroll, benefits admin, IT/device management, and PEO options are priced and sold separately and stack quickly. No public full price list, demo required. Budget for a per-employee monthly cost that's meaningfully higher than the advertised starting number once you add the modules you actually need.

Real gotchas

  • Rippling sells annual contracts that bundle multiple legal entities under one subscription. If you need to offboard one entity while keeping another active, Rippling has told customers partial cancellation isn't permitted, the whole contract covers all entities (Source: BBB complaint filings against Rippling, via WebSearch summary 2026)
  • New entity implementations can take up to 12 weeks, and customers report being billed for the full contract during that delay (Source: BBB complaint filings, WebSearch summary 2026)
  • Modular pricing means the number a salesperson quotes for "just payroll" is rarely what you end up paying once benefits admin and IT management get added, which most growing teams do within the first year
  • Cancelling mid-contract is genuinely hard, this is an annual-commitment tool, not month-to-month, confirm contract terms before signing if there's any chance of downsizing

Integrations that matter

Slack, Google Workspace, Okta, NetSuite, plus its own native app-provisioning marketplace covering hundreds of SaaS tools for auto-provisioning/deprovisioning.

Otto’s take on this tool

Recommend Rippling when the user's pain spans HR AND IT (managing employee laptops/software access) not just payroll alone, and headcount is 10+. If the pain is only "run payroll," recommend Gusto or OnPay first, they're simpler and cheaper. Always flag the annual-contract and multi-entity lock-in gotcha if the user mentions multiple business entities or expects headcount to shrink. Never recommend to solo founders or sub-5 person teams.

  • Easy to navigate and access needed information.
  • It's easy to use and integrates with multiple HR functions. Having everything on one platform makes things easy to find.
  • It's great: robust and does everything we need it to do, albeit maybe a few too many steps for basic actions.
  • Very easy to use. Just love it
  • The platform is easy to use, well organized, and makes managing HR and payroll much more efficient.
  • Any time I have to do something, I have to use chat support to figure it out...customer support blames him for it.
