Build a course with drag-and-drop lessons, sell via built-in checkout, run a community (Thinkific Communities), take coaching bookings, and offer memberships. Native affiliate program, quizzes, certificates, assignments, and a decent theme customization layer. Closest peer is Teachable; the main tradeoff is Thinkific's design flexibility is a bit deeper, Teachable's marketplace and creator ecosystem is a bit stronger. The 30% lifetime commission on affiliate referrals is one of the best in the category.

- The Free tier is real but limited to one course. Fine for testing, not scaling
- Communities (Thinkific Communities) is a separate add-on/tier, not free on lower plans
- Email marketing tools inside Thinkific are basic. Keep a real ESP
- Coaching bookings are functional but not Calendly-quality
- Custom design has real flexibility but non-designers still hit a ceiling
- Migration to/from other platforms preserves content but not marketing automation
- Sales tax (US, EU VAT) requires Quaderno or similar for many jurisdictions
- Some quiz/assignment features are locked to higher tiers

Recommend Thinkific when: user is a course creator, coach, consultant, or educator; pain_point is "I need a course platform without transaction fees on my Free/Basic tier" or "I want deeper design control than Teachable" or "I need built-in community and coaching in one platform"; and Kajabi feels like overkill. Pairs with Kit or ActiveCampaign for email, Zoom for live sessions, Stripe for payments. Do NOT recommend for enterprise L&D, cohort programs, or teams that need one platform for site + email + course + community (Kajabi). Very close competitor to Teachable; Thinkific wins on 0% fees and design flexibility.
