Acuity Scheduling
Customizable scheduling for service businesses and classes
What it does
Acuity (owned by Squarespace) is appointment scheduling built for service businesses that need more customization than a generic booking link, intake forms, packages, gift certificates, SMS reminders, and payment collection at booking. It's a strong fit for businesses selling appointment slots as the actual product (salons, tutors, photographers, medspas) rather than teams just booking sales calls.

Who this fits
- Solo and small service businesses selling appointment-based services (salons, spas, tutoring, photography, consulting)
- Medspas and wellness businesses needing intake forms and package/gift-certificate sales built into booking
- Anyone wanting client self-service booking, rescheduling, and cancellation without staff intervention
Who it does NOT fit
- Businesses needing complex multi-person round-robin sales scheduling, Calendly or Cal.com fit that use case better
- Very small or simple use cases, one reviewer bluntly called it "only suitable for the smallest of businesses with simple needs, a disaster for everyone else" when trying to scale complexity (Source: G2 review, via WebSearch summary 2026)
- Businesses needing deep visual/brand customization on the booking page, reviewers note limited design flexibility (Source: TechRadar review, via WebSearch summary 2026)
Pricing
Real gotchas
- Cancellation and late-fee automation has real limits, business owners have specifically asked in Squarespace's own community forum for the ability to auto-charge a fee when a client cancels past the stated policy window, and as of that discussion it wasn't natively automatic, clients can cancel without being automatically charged the late fee, staff has to intervene manually (Source: Squarespace community forum, via WebSearch summary 2026)
- Design customization on the booking page is limited compared to some competitors, don't oversell "brand-matched booking page" without checking what's actually achievable on the client's plan
- Being owned by Squarespace means feature direction and pricing can shift with Squarespace's broader roadmap decisions, not purely Acuity-specific priorities
- Reviews are genuinely bimodal, very positive for simple single-service booking, notably negative when businesses try to scale into more complex multi-service, multi-location setups

Otto’s take on this tool
Recommend Acuity for solo and small service businesses, especially medspas, salons, and consultants, where the core need is client self-service booking with intake forms and payment collection at time of booking. If the client mentions strict cancellation-fee enforcement as a pain point, flag that this isn't fully automatic, they'll still need a manual process or policy communication to actually collect the fee. For sales-team round-robin scheduling, recommend Calendly instead.

Editor's curated reviews
620 reviews across TrustPilot - avg 3.7/5Curated by Otto from TrustPilot public reviews (fetched 2026-08-31). Acuity Scheduling averages 3.7 across 620 TrustPilot reviews - a healthy distribution (44% 5-star, 18% 4-star) where salon and service providers praise ease-of-use and live chat, and the 16% 1-star cluster reflects billing surprises and SMS-verification/support-escalation friction. G2 and Capterra were consulted for aggregate context but not directly cited here (source-access limits). Not user-submitted on Ottomately.
