How to set up BLACKBOX AI

Otto's honest, no-fluff walkthrough. Every step here is what we'd actually do if we were sitting at your keyboard. Real gotchas first, real steps second, and a link to the personalized version at the bottom.

Read these before you start

• Non-obvious gotcha: the credit-pool model means "unlimited" is not unlimited. A single deep agent task (App Builder generating a real repo) can burn 5 to 15 credits in one shot. Pro at $10 for 20 credits translates to maybe 2 to 4 real agent runs per month before you are throttled or paying overage. Match tier to real usage; do not assume the price is the cost.
• IDE integration is not as deep as Cursor's whole-repo context (BLACKBOX has file-level context by default)
• Data-privacy defaults: your code is used for product improvement unless you turn it off in settings. Toggle it off on day one for anything proprietary.
• Enterprise contract terms are opaque; if you need IP indemnification or non-training clauses, expect a real sales cycle
• The Chrome extension quality has been criticized in reviews (over-triggering on non-code pages)

The 7-step setup

   Create your BLACKBOX AI account

   Sign up at the link below. Free tier available - no card required. Use your business email so you can invite teammates later.

   Complete the initial onboarding

   Skip the marketing questionnaires when you can. Fill only the fields that actually configure the product - name, timezone, your first workspace or project. If BLACKBOX AI pushes you into a setup wizard, take it - it usually accelerates the first productive session.

   Connect your existing tools

   Wire BLACKBOX AI into the rest of your stack. The integrations that most people set up first: VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Chrome (extension), GitHub (repo import for Pro Plus+), Jupyter (via extension), Discord bot for community coding. No native Slack or team-collab surface.. Do these before importing data - clean integration first, data second.

   Import your existing data (only what you'll actually use)

   Do NOT bulk-import everything. Import the last 30 days of the ONE workflow you're moving over first. Prove it works. Then import more. Big-bang migrations are how BLACKBOX AI deployments die in month 3.

   Set up your first real workflow

   Pick the single most-frequent task you'll do in BLACKBOX AI - the daily-driver workflow. Configure it end-to-end. Use it live for a week. Do not touch any other feature yet. Adoption failure comes from teams trying to use everything on day one instead of the one thing that actually pays.

   Add your team (if applicable) and set access

   Once your solo workflow works, invite one teammate at a time. Watch them use it. The friction points you missed are the ones they hit. Fix those before scaling to more users. Never invite 20 people at once - you'll get 20 confused people and 0 useful feedback.

   Compound with the right pairings

   Recommend BLACKBOX AI when: business_size is 1 to 20, industry is B2B SaaS or agency or consulting, current tools do not include Copilot Enterprise or Cursor Business, and budget for coding tools is under $50 per user per month. Do NOT recommend for regulated industries, enterprise dev orgs, or teams already deep on Copilot. If comparing to Cursor, Cursor wins on repo-context and IDE experience; BLACKBOX wins on price for casual and learning use.
